Kellyanne Conway Gaslights Republicans on Fox
Well known pollster, political consultant and Fox News contributor parrots Critical Primary Theory on the Fox News program “The Story with Martha MacCallum” 2/21/23
Kellyanne Conway gaslights Republicans while parroting the familiar narrative that a large Republican primary field will allow plurality wins to result in a “presumptive nominee” prior to the 2024 Republican National Convention.
Conway cites the South Carolina 2016 primary results as a pattern for the 2024 Republican nomination process where, she says, a large field will “help him”(Trump).
She explained that the South Carolina primary was “winner-take-all” and while Trump got “about a third” of the primary vote, with Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio splitting 45% with 22.5 % each, Trump “won” all 50 delegates.
What she omitted from her example, however, is the important part.
Delegates to the 2016 convention were not “bound” prior to the convention.
She also omitted the fact that, in 2020, South Carolina Republicans canceled the presidential primary. An important fact because it shows that political parties make the rules for the Republican presidential nomination process, not the government.
But none of this should be news to Conway. You see, she was on the Trump campaign payroll during the 2016 Republican National Convention.
She either knew, or should have known, what Trump lawyers were up to during the Convention Rules Committee meeting in Cleveland.
